Wii SportsThey say that the Wii can offer genuine exercise and even inspire weight loss. As a chubby geek really in need of such a thing, I think I’ll be putting that to the test. I’ve resolved to play Wii Sports at least 45 minutes to an hour a day (preferably soon after I get up so I can wake up), and eat less (and perhaps better, I haven’t decided yet. Don’t take my muffins away!) and see what happens. I’ve been wanting to lose some weight for a while (well I have a little but more wouldn’t hurt), I’ve been meaning to excericse but like most Americans I’m too busy (read: lazy ass rat bastard.) I know this sounds like a completely geeky regimen for exercise but… what can I tell you? I am a geek. Besides, exercising in the comfort of your own home is nothing new, and I find this much better than watching Richard Simmons dance around in short shorts.

Where I’m not going to keep track of crazy charts and numbers like that one guy, I’ll at least check in over the rest of the year if I’ve seen any results. Now onto my thoughts about Wii Sports (as before today I’d only ever played the Bowling.)

Wii SportsThe Wii Sports Boxing game is intense. Seriously my arms are sore from it and I worked up quite a sweat. Of course instinctively I was being very vicious with my punches, even though you don’t have to move that much. And I was sure to bounce on my feet a little for added exercise. The opponents get harder and harder as you go on, which is good, but for a while there no one could last one round with me, ahaha. I’ve been considering taking up martial arts again, but considering how sore I am I’m not ready at all (last time was in High School and all.) I played Boxing as the Azrael Mii at one point though, so the instructions showed again, which was annoying but that’s okay.

Kittika heading my baseball team

Oh yes, of course like a big dork I’ve made Miis of many of my characters. At the start it was only me, Azrael (named Az), Lucifer (named Luci) and Kittika, but after seeing how the baseball game worked I decided I needed enough Miis for a whole baseball team, so I made Lilith, Terith, Momo, Gabriel (named Gabby) and Metatron as well (it still wasn’t enough). I may make more in the future, you can’t have wild hair colors of course so that leaves out some characters. Eventually there will be Miis of my friends on there I reckon, especially when they come over to play or I start playing online. You can have up to 100, afterall.

Wii Sports - suck at tennis
Suck. At. Tennis.

I’m getting surprisingly okay at the Baseball game. I only did the Bowling as part of Wii Fitness, and one thing this game has taught me is that, even virtually, I fucking suck at Tennis. I think my Tennis suckitude is what drove my Fitness score to the embarassing age of 64. At least my skill level in Boxing is 584, not bad for one day.
