What is Parody into Dreams?

Parody into Dreams

>>In 1998 Archie Comics released a 6 issue comic book adaptation of the video game NiGHTS into Dreams. Because of the sloppy art and the lackluster plot that fails to reflect the whimsy of its source (and then later fails to even adhere to the story) the comics are generally loathed by fans of the game. Now where I was aware of these comics at the time they were made, I instinctively avoided them. I finally read scans of the comics in 2004 and found myself getting all these funny little ideas… and so the phenomenon of Parody into Dreams began!

I took scans of all 6 comics and changed the dialog and some of the drawings in an array of silly, and often sophomoric humor. Now these could likely be funnier if you’re familiar with the game, and perhaps if you’d read the original comics, but many people have expressed their love of this bit of insanity regardless! For better or for worse you also won’t find the actual comic for sale anywhere, as it’s been out of print for almost 10 years. It’s apparently not even worth a mention on Archie’s website. That being said, the display of this silliness falls into the realm of Free Use as it’s most certainly not going to harm future sales of this work. Don’t sue, Archie, I’m giving you free advertising!

NiGHTS into Dreams

>> NiGHTS into Dreams was a game released on the Sega Saturn in 1996. NiGHTS was intended to be a new Sega mascot that would save the Saturn and, well okay that didn’t happen. But the game itself became a cult classic. It wasn’t well marketed, was released on a doomed console, and was not explosively popular in its own time, but today it’s considered by many gamers to be a classic and one of the most unique and aesthetically pleasing games ever created. Of course it’s recent sequel on the Wii, NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams didn’t exactly live up to the original, but… eh. It was still enjoyable.

Are you some kind of crazy person?

Parody into Dreams

>>Why… yes. Yes I am.

And if it so tickles your fancy, you can take advantage of my craziness by following the link below to a special section which is full of amusing fan ranting and whining as I show bit by bit just where the Archie comic differs horribly from the source material. And… well… where I may have stretched a few things myself.
